Arts Night 2023 is a live production held at the National University of Singapore (NUS)’s University Cultural Centre (UCC), at the Ho Bee Auditorium. With a venue capacity of almost 1000, this is a relatively large-scale production aiming to showcase the residents' artistic talents from RC4. The production boasts a myriad of performances, ranging from nostalgic rock bands, electrifying hip-hop dances and acapella groups, all tied together with an emotional storyline brought to life by RC4’s very own theatre group.
This year, the theme for RC4 Arts Night, “Troublemakers”, is focused on the years from the ‘00s to the early ‘10s, the time in which the majority of students, mostly from generation Z, would have been kids in primary or secondary school. The production aims to invoke feelings of nostalgia and childhood by jogging the memories of the audience with familiar sights and sounds. While we remember the past and look upon it fondly, we must remember that life always seems better in hindsight and that the true experience of life exists in the present. “Troublemakers” thus endeavours to inspire us to appreciate the beauty in the present.
